There is nothing more important for a Christian than to be a godly
person. It is more important than being a conscientious parent, a
zealous worker, a dynamic speaker, or a talented leader. But many
feel that “godliness” is something attained by only a few special
individuals. This class will look at what godliness really is and
how we can train ourselves to be godly. We will also examine closely
the following characteristics of godliness:
-
humility
-
contentment
-
thankfulness
-
joy
holiness
self control
faithfulness
peace
patience
gentleness
love
kindness & goodness
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
CLI is designed for anyone who
wants to study the Word of God at a deeper level than is normally
possible in a Sunday service. People who would especially benefit from
the classes are deacons, other church leaders, and Sunday School and
Bible Fellowship teachers, or anyone interested in growing in Christ.
People from other churches are welcome to attend. CLI is designed for
people who may not be able to attend Bible college, but who are hungry
to know the Word better and to grow in their spiritual lives.
WHEN DOES IT MEET?
CLI meets
year-round on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:00. There are three
classes offered each year, the first from September through December,
the second from January through April, and the third from May through
August.
WHERE DOES IT MEET?
Chapel Lay
Institute is held in the main Auditorium at Johnston Chapel. The
format is designed to emphasize in-depth teaching with questions on the
part of attendees encouraged.
WHAT DO I NEED?
All you need
to bring is your Bible and a pen or pencil. Notebooks and class
outlines are provided. Although the classes are designed to be Bible
college level instruction, there are no tests or homework. There is no
cost for the classes, and new students are encouraged to begin at any
time. It is not necessary to have taken any CLI classes previously to
begin now. If you have any questions, please call the church office at
