The Thyngs

Merry Christmas!

Dear Family and Friends,

Thank you for all of your prayers for us and the ministry here in PNG over the past month.  Fourteen men and women graduated from the Bible college last month, and graduation and pastor’s conference went great.  We are thankful for these graduates who are so willing to make the sacrifice to serve the Lord with their whole lives and deeply appreciate your prayers for them.

We continue to work through the organization process at Hosanna.  Pastor Abol and Dan have scheduled a baptismal service on December 27th.  Please continue to pray that many will take this important step in their walk of faith.  Amy is continuing to teach the children chronologically through the Bible using “The Story of Hope”, an evangelistic program developed by ABWE.

The ladies conference with our graduates, Moses and Rose, went very well.  Amy spoke on Titus 2:3-5, with the main theme “Becoming Women of God”.  Several ladies were saved, and many more rededicated their lives to being godly women, wives and mothers.

We just returned from Simbai, a remote area where some of our colleagues serve.  Dan had the opportunity to speak at their annual youth camp, where the theme was, “Beware of the Lies of the World.”  Many teens were saved and many others rededicated their lives to Christ.  It was such a joy to watch the invitation time on Thursday night, where youth after youth raised their hands for decisions.  We are so thankful for that opportunity to minister.  We also really enjoyed being with our missionary friends for the week.  It was kind of like a little vacation for the rest of us, including Dan’s parents, whom we have greatly enjoyed being here.

Many of our churches have Christmas conferences coming up this month, so we would appreciate your prayers.  Dan was scheduled to speak at Lifeway Baptist Church’s Christmas conference, but they are planning to cancel it.  Please pray that God’s will be done.  This is a key church in the church planting movement in the Daulo region, but they are really struggling.  They were without a pastor for a long time, but now have a new pastor.  Many have backslid, and about one-third of their members still attend.  Please pray for us as we as we seek God’s will as to how we can be involved.

Amy is pregnant with our sixth child, and the baby is due March 24th of next year.  Because of the poor health care in PNG, we will be having the baby in Cairns, Australia.  The last date that Amy can fly internationally is February 15th, so we’ll be leaving PNG around that time.  Ty’s birthday is February 10th, so we’d like to be in Australia for that.  We’ll hopefully return to PNG in May.  We are sad to leave our ministries right now, but we are so grateful to God for this blessing.

We hope that you all have a wonderful Christmas.  We miss and love you all.

Love, Dan, Amy, Tyler, Kate & Claire

P.S.  We all miss Ty so much this year at Christmas.  It is just so hard without him around.  We are so thankful to God for His sacrifice in sending His precious Son.  Without that, we would have no hope of seeing our precious son again.
