B. The ultimate in suffering was Christ’s separation from the Father. – vv. 1-2
II. The Agony Of Christ’s Separation From God
A. Christ saw and dreaded that hour. – John 12:27-33; Luke 22:39-44
B. Christ endured this terrible agony to provide salvation for sinful man.
“…The Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” (Isaiah 53:6)
“God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us…” (II Corinthians 5:21)
III. The Accomplishments Of
Christ’s Separation From God
A. The demonstration of perfect obedience to the Father – Philippians 2:8
B. The manifestation of God’s love for sinful man – Romans 5:6-8
C. The satisfaction of God’s righteous demands – II Corinthians 5:21
D. The provision for those separated from God to be reconciled to Him – Ephesians 2:12-13
E. The assurance of triumph when facing life’s darkest hours – Romans 8:37
Conclusion - Even when feeling forsaken by God, Jesus turned to the Word of God and prayer to the Father. Let us do so as well.

still live by faith, and still cry, ‘My God, My God.’”
