Don’t Play Favorites

James 2:1-13

Introduction - Christians above all others should not show favoritism. James emphasizes that we should not show favoritism for the following reasons:

I. It Is Unchristian - v. 1-4

A. Contrary to our Christian profession - v. 1a

B. Contrary to the example of Christ - v. 1b

C. Contrary to proper judgment - vv. 2-4

II. It Is Unreasonable - vv. 5-7

A. Poor brethren are rich in Christ. - vv. 5-6a

B. The ungodly rich are the oppressors. - vv. 6b-7

III. It Is Unloving - vs. 8-13

A. The royal law is to love your neighbor as yourself. - v.8

B. Unloving favoritism makes one a lawbreaker. - vv.9-11

C. The unloving will be judged. - vv. 12-13
