Christ Our Counselor

Isaiah 9:6-7

 

 I.      A Needed Counselor

 

         A. We are incapable of ordering our own lives. – Jeremiah 10:23; Proverbs 12:15, 14:12

 

         B.        We are easily deceived.

               1.  By ourselves – Jeremiah 17:9

               2.  By the Devil – II Corinthians 4:3-4; 11:3

               3.  By the world – Psalm 1:1; Romans 12:2

 

         C.  We need the sure counsel of Christ.  Proverbs 3:5-6

  

 

II .    A Competent Counselor

 

         A.        He is the all-wise Christ. – I Corinthians 1:30

 

         B.        He knows all about us and our need. – John 2:24-25

 

 

 III.  A Concerned Counselor

 

         A.        He loves us. – John 15:9

 

         B.        He identifies with us in our every need. – Hebrews 4:15-16

 

 

 IV.   An Available Counselor

 

         A.        He invites all to come. – Matthew 11:28

   

         B.   He will not turn anyone away. – John 6:37

 

 

V.     A Faithful Counselor  cp II Tim. 2:13

 

         A.        In pointing out the problem

 

         B.        In prescribing the cure and giving guidance

               1.  Through His Word – Psalm 119:24

               2.  Through prayer – Matthew 7:7-8

               3.  By His Spirit – Isaiah 11:2

               4.  Through circumstances – Psalm 32:8

               5.  Through Christian brethren – Proverbs 11:14, 15:22, 27:9

 

 

Conclusion - One must follow the counsel of Christ to profit from it. – Proverbs 1:30-33
